Day by day

Day by day

Day 1: Arrival to Ljubljana

Once you’ve touched down in Ljubljana, we will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s vibrant capital.

Once you're settled in, you will have time for a little local sightseeing at your leisure. At 2pm, we will offer a full tour briefing and a quick drive so you can get familiar with your vehicle. In the evening, we gather for a welcome meal - delicious dining and witty banter guaranteed. The perfect way to get revved up for the epic adventure ahead.

Day 2: Ljubljana - Deutschlandsberg

On day two, the driving begins! We will leave Ljubljana and travel north, along breathtaking Alpine roads, riding up the valley of the river Kokra and arriving at Jezersko, where we cross the border to Austria for a short while.

After reentering Slovenia, we will drop down to the Logarska valley, one of the most idyllic glacial Alpine valleys in Europe, surrounded by peaks of more than 2.200m high. Finally, we will cruise into Styria, the mountainous section of eastern Austria, exploring the sweeping roads framed by vineyards and castles.

Day 3: Deutschlandsberg - Jeruzalem

Driving the gentle roads of the Styrian countryside, we will pass pretty fruit orchards and vineyards peppered with scenic lakes and charming medieval towns.

Heading north past Graz before returning south toward Slovenia's Prekmurje region, we will slowly descend into Jeruzalem, the heart of one of Slovenia's best known wine-growing reagions.

Day 4: Jeruzalem - Novo mesto

From Jeruzalem, we will drive south through the wine-growing region of Haloze and into Kozjansko, one of Slovenia’s most remote areas and a region rich in dense forests, rolling hills, and breathtaking castles.

We will stop at Podsreda Castle for a scenic picnic lunch before an afternoon drive to Otocec castle, one of the nation's most legendary fortresses. Today the castle, which dates from the 16th-century, is home to a five-star hotel.

Day 5: Novo mesto - Losinj Island

Continuing south, we'll spend the morning on the winding roads of the unpopulated, hilly region of Dolenjska, where driving is incredible and the traffic barely exists.

Crossing the border to Croatia, we will cruise to Krk Island, the biggest in the Adriatic, and after a short ferry ride, we will reach Losinj Island. Following more exhilarating driving action, we will finish the day with a dip in the hotel pool, or even better, in the idyllic Adriatic sea.

Day 6: Rest day on Losinj Island

Today is all about chilling.

Drive to Mali Losinj and Veli Losinj, two delightful little towns on the southern end of the island, stroll along the local harbour or take a boat trip to the stunning islands of Susak or Ilovik - it's entirely up to you. Whatever you decide to do, you will feel relaxed and refreshed by the end of the day.

Day 7: Losinj Island - Istrian Peninsula

After driving the whole length of the island, we will take a short ferry ride back to the mainland, cruising onto Istria, the Adriatic's biggest peninsula.

During an epic day of driving, we will stop in Pula to visit the legendary Roman Amphitheater, overlooking the harbour northeast of the old town. Built to host gladiatorial contests and seating up to a whopping 20,000 spectators, this iconic structure still serves the entertainment needs of the locals, hosting regular concerts and film-festival screenings every year.

Day 8: Istrian Peninsula - Brda

Bidding farewell to the Istrian Peninsula, we will tackle curvy roads while passing through rolling hills, stunning valleys and fertile plains past Motovun, a Tuscan-like town perched on top of a hill.

After crossing into Slovenia, we will visit the Skocjan caves, a subterranean wonder and a proud member of Unesco's World Heritage Site list. We will round off the day in the Brda region and spend a night in a vineyard-based B&B that serves superb local food and wine.

Day 9: Brda - Dolomites

After an early morning border crossing into Italy, we will curve towards our next destination - the mighty Dolomites.

As we drive through the dramatic valleys of Friuli, grand mountains will emerge in the distance. We will enter the region of the Carnic Alps, driving across epic mountain terrain past Cortina d'Ampezzo before reaching the Falzarego and Valparola passes. At 2.200 m (7.200 ft), we will finish driving for the day and explore one of Dolomites' beautiful little town set among the mountain tops.

Day 10: Rest day in Dolomites

Ah, another day of rest. Or maybe not.

The Dolomites belong to the Alto Adige or South Tyrol, a region where two-thirds of the population still speak German rather than Italian. If resting is not for you, you can enjoy plenty of epic Dolomite driving action, embarking on a journey through jaw-dropping scenery and adrenaline-pumping mountain roads - just ask our guide to map out a route for you. Alternatively, you can soak up the scenery, eat, drink, and relax.

Day 11: Dolomites - Kals am Grossglockner

Today we will negotiate several fantastic passes, one after another, including Falzarego, Giau, Pordoi, and more.

This high altitude motoring playground exists because of the road-building efforts of Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces along what was a bitterly contested front during WWI. We will end our day across the border in Austria, spending a night under the intriguing Grossglockner, the perfect way to say goodbye to the mighty Dolomites.

Day 12: Kals am Grossglockner - Bovec

This particular day of the driving tour delivers the most exhilarating roads in the Austrian Alps, including the world-famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Running through the heart of the Hohe Tauren National Park to Austria's highest peak, Mt Grossglockner (3798m), this legendary route will throw 36 curves your way, rising to an altitude of 2504 m. Once we are off the mountain, we will cross to Italy, heading toward Slovenia and end the day in the stunning Alpine resort of Bovec, our home for two nights.

Day 13: Rest day in Bovec

Bovec is a vibrant Alpine resort, perfect for adventurers and leisure seekers alike.

Enjoy a whole day of discovery, exploring the many trails around Bovec. Or, take a cable car to the Kanin ski station, play golf, enjoy a spot of fishing, go horseback riding, try mountain biking, take a swim or visit the WWI Kobarid Museum - again, the choice is yours. If you're feeling really adventurous, you can go whitewater rafting or kayaking on the untamed Soca River with experienced guides or even try a tandem parachute jump!

Day 14: Bovec - Ljubljana

In the morning, we will navigate one of the prettiest roads in Slovenia, cruising through the Trenta valley, climbing the Vrsic Pass, famed for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Next, we will descend towards Bled Lake, one of Europe's most stunning mountainside resorts. Boasting emerald-green water, a picture-postcard church on the lake's island, a medieval castle clinging to a rocky cliff, and some of the grandest peaks of the Julian Alps for its backdrop, Bled is a sight to behold. In the afternoon, we will drive along twisty roads, passing the historic towns of Kropa and Skofja Loka before arriving back in Ljubljana.

Day 15: Ljubljana, flight home

In the morning, you can enjoy some time in the old part of the city and soak up its vibrant market before losing yourself in Ljublana’s many hidden roads, pathways, shops, and iconic landmarks.

Depending on the time of your flight, you can climb the staircase to the 16th-century fortification of Ljubljana Castle, a glorious structure that dominates the town. On the flight home, you will have time to think about your incredible driving adventure - it's been emotional.
