Driving through the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Austria will expose you to some of Europe's finest historical destinations: Prague, Budapest, Krakow, and Salzburg.

During this epic driving adventure, you will discover countless castles and ruins perched near lost-in-time Baroque. You will get to explore Renaissance villages and beautiful Austrian Alps studded with stunning mountain lakes and hidden Alpine valleys. You will see things that will take your breath away.

Since the fall of the Berlin wall, Eastern European countries have come on leaps and bounds. The nineties saw these lands transformed from open-air museums of socialism and neglected dwellings to colourful, vibrant, culturally-rich central European states.

Despite their modernization, great care has been taken to preserve the magic of the area's rich historical and cultural heritage, in many respects, the countries' most valuable assets. And now you can experience them for yourself - buckle up!

Day by day

Day 1: Arrival in Ljubljana

Shortly after landing, we will greet you at the airport and chauffeur you to your hotel in Ljubljana, Slovenia's charming capital.

In the afternoon, we will meet for an official tour briefing at 2pm and afterwards, you will have the chance to have a quick cruise in your convertible. In the evening, we will enjoy a traditional Slovene meal complete with fine local wine, the perfect start to a legendary driving adventure.

Day 2: Ljubljana - Graz

We’ll start our voyage with a laid back cruise through the Slovenian Alps.

As a part of the Eastern Alps mountain range, the Slovenian Alps offer thrilling driving terrain through high Alpine valleys and snow-topped mountains. We will cross into Styria, the mountainous section of Eastern Austria, and cruise winding roads through an area known for its vineyards and ancient castles. At night, we will stay in Graz, the provincial capital, a place where old and new meet. Here we will relax and enjoy refreshments in the glass seashell-shaped Inisel café on the River Mur - magic!

Day 3: Graz - Tihany

We will roll on to Hungary, winding through rugged terrain of farm and woodland while taking on some of the best roads in Austria, each incredibly scenic and traffic-free.

In the afternoon, we will arrive at Lake Balaton, commonly known as the "Hungarian Sea." Here we will explore the Tihany peninsula, a nature reserve that stretches 5km into the lake. In the evening, we will feast on mouthwatering goulash and Tokaj wine.

Day 4: Tihany - Budapest

On this particular day of the tour, we will head to Budapest, Hungary's legendary capital city.

Budapest is a fascinating capital, rich in diversity and cultural heritage. The city of Budapest and the lifestyle of its people combine remnants of its Turkish, Austrian and socialist roots, and is a pleasure to experience. With stunning architecture and an amazing history to match, Budapest deserves its reputation as the 'Paris of Central Europe'.

Day 5: Rest day in Budapest

A rest day in Budapest - does it get any better? During a day away from driving, we will take a guided tour around the city’s most awe-inspiring attractions.

Castle Hill and Citadel on the Buda side are home to mansions and stunning churches overlooking the Danube River. On the left bank of the Danube, known as Pest, we will uncover one of the most attractive parliaments in Europe and admire Hungarian kings on the Hero's Square. There will also be a chance to eat, drink, stroll and shop on the busy Vaci and Andrassy streets or unwind in one of the city's many Turkish baths.

Day 6: Budapest - High Tatras

Driving north through the fertile lowlands and foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, we will reach Slovakia, a romantic destination that is yet to become mobbed with tourists.

Cruising through a mix of charming towns and villages makes for an inspiring cultural experience - and the driving is immense. Eventually, we will start to climb the Low Tatras Mountains, ending up at the incredible High Tatras National Park, one of Slovakia's most popular attractions.

Day 7: High Tatras - Krakow

At daybreak, we will cruise the beautiful "Freedom Road" and cross into Poland.

Then, we will drop into southeastern Poland, a beautiful agricultural region in the Vistula River Basin. We will stop at the Wieliczka Salt Mines, a revered Unesco World Heritage Site, before driving on to Krakow, Poland's once royal capital, a sight to behold.

Day 8: Rest Day in Krakow

Krakow is fast becoming one of the must-visit cities in Europe, and a rest day here offers the chance to get up close and personal with this most magical of places.

Explore the 14th Century Wawel Cathedral on Wawel Hill or discover Rynek Glowny (Main Market Square), Europe's biggest medieval town square. For a more culturally poignant day, you could consider visiting Auschwitz (Oswiecim in Polish), to pay respect to the more than one million people who lost their lives here during WW2.

Day 9: Krakow - Olomouc

After a well-earned rest in Krakow, we will depart Poland and enter the Czech Republic, a landlocked nation bordering Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Poland.

We will spend the day covering miles of stunning rural terrain before reaching Olomouc, one of Czech's most exciting cities. With tourist numbers down to a trickle compared to the capital, Olomouc, with its pretty squares, stunning fountains and astronomical clock, remains one of the Czech Republic's most beloved gems.

Day 10: Olomouc - Prague

Our driving tour will take us through famed Bohemia, which offers adrenaline-pumping driving through backdrops of sandstone pinnacles, rugged ravines, dense forests, and lush meadows.

On route, we will stop in Kutna Hora to visit the ghoulish Ossuary Chapel of All Saints. Traffic will pick up slightly as we get closer to the Golden City of Prague, but as we enter the city, your frustrations will simply melt away.

Day 11: Rest day in Prague

And, relax. A rest day in Prague will give you the chance to get under the skin of the old town and all it has to offer.

Alternatively, you can drive into the fantastic Bohemian countryside, stopping in the iconic town of Plzen, where lager was invented in 1842. Here you will find the Pilsner Urquell brewery, home to one of Europe's most refreshing lagers. Back in Prague, non-drivers can spend the day soaking up Prague Castle or wandering the meandering lanes and enjoying the local delicacies.

Day 12: Prague - Cesky Krumlov

Leaving Prague, we venture south into Central Bohemia, a land of infinite castles and old towns.

We will cruise the gentle, swaying picture-postcard roads until we meet the meandering Vltava River. The highlight of the day will come in the form of fabulous riding though the low, forest-clad hills of the Sumava Range National Park. At dusk, we will pull into the captivating town of Cesky Krumlov, a World Heritage Site, and place like no other.

Day 13: Cesky Krumlov - Salzburg

Bidding farewell to the Czech Republic, we will revisit Austria and head into the Salzkammergut, a region known for its tall defined peaks and picture-perfect lakes which offer exhilarating driving on twisty roads over high passes.

We will negotiate narrow sweeping roads through several stunning resorts and spa towns that stretch as far as the eye can see. At the end of the day, Salzburg awaits. We will spend the afternoon discovering the very best of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and home to a revered classical-music tradition.

Day 14: Salzburg - Ljubljana

On the final day of our driving adventure, we will experience an unforgettable drive, snaking up and down dramatic Alpine passes, admiring valleys and snow-covered mountains along the way.

The Hohe Tauern (high passes), which includes some of the tallest mountains in the Alps (and certainly the highest mountains in Austria) is as challenging as it is inspiring, making it the perfect way to end our adventure. We will pass the border into Slovenia once more before dropping into the fertile Slovenian countryside and returning to Ljubljana.

Day 15: Ljubljana, flight home

Before you head to the airport, you can stroll through the narrow streets of Ljubljana, enjoying the delightful Old Town with is animated cafe culture and vibrant shops.

Or you can tackle Castle Hill, which provides astounding 360-degree views of the city. On the way home, it's likely you'll be pinching yourself, thinking, was that real? Yes, it was - the driving adventure of a lifetime.
