Slovenia convertible driving tours

As a small and picturesque country, Slovenia makes a great tourist destination. Mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests, caves, hills, plains, rivers and the sea - you name it, you can find it all within a modest 20.273 square km (half the size of Switzerland). You can ski in the morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon. Slovenia is a full member of the European Union since 2004. Ljubljana, its capital, is well connected with major European airports, and this makes Slovenia a very appealing new destination for travelers.

Roads and Driving

Slovenia can justly claim to be one of the world's greenest countries with half of its land surface covered with forests. Nice twisty roads exist through Slovenia's varied terrain, and there isn't a lot of traffic.

Climate & Environment, When to Go

Slovenia's incredible mixture of terrain can bring warm Mediterranean breezes from the coast up to the foothills of the mountains. April can see rain, but the flower strewn forest meadows are at their best then. Summer has nice temperatures well into September, until the rain starts in October. Accommodation in high season can be hard to come by in the capital.

Sights, People, Food and Drink

Slovenes are ethnically Slavic, typically multilingual, friendly and extraverted. Ljubljana is Slovenia's sweet capital, having all the great museums, restaurants and bars of the bigger European capitals without the bulk, crowds and traffic. Bohinj, Bled and the stunning Vrsic Pass provide the mountain scenery. Slovenes have one of the more interesting Eastern European cuisines with zlikrofi (ravioli filled with cheese, bacon and chives), bakalca (lamb based goulash) and mlinci (corn pancakes) on the menu in the traditional restaurants. Local wines are very good.
